WCTU Fountain
A boy gives his dog a drink in this 1955 photo of the Women's Christian Temperance Union fountain at the corner of Western Avenue and Petaluma Boulevard North. The 117-year-old fountain is most notable for its inscription, "Total abstinence is the way to handle the alcohol problem." The Women's Christian Temperance Union, founded in Cleveland in 1874, spread its anti-alcohol message nationwide.
