Sonoma 69, Petaluma 67
Sonoma ended up winning a girls' track meet at Petaluma that was originally
held April 21. The Trojans ostensibly won the meet, but Sonoma protested
the size of the discus vector (where the discus lands), which was ruled too
small. As a result, Sonoma's Melissa Van Paris got to re-do two earlier
tosses on which she had thrown outside the vector and fouled. Her best mark
of 123-11 Wednesday easily moved her into first ahead of Petaluma's Mary
Miller (96-6). Sonoma finished the SCL girls season with one loss, compared
to none for Casa Grande, heading into Saturday's league championships. If
Sonoma finishes first and Casa second at the SCL meet, the two teams will
share the title.
