Coastal Mountain Conference upstart Santa Rosa Christian surprised some of the
prognosticators with a 1st time qualification for the Division V State Meet with their
run at the NCS championships in Hayward on Saturday. Led by Senior Jeff Jackson, the
Lions edged out perennial qualifiers Lick Wilmerding and College Prep for the coveted
4th slot of Division V qualifiers. Top Ten State ranked University and Head Royce took
the first two positions. Crystal Springs Uplands proved 10 points better than SRC for
third while the Black and Gold Santa Rosans held off Lick by 5 points and College Prep
by 10.
The Lions posted the third fastest team time in the Division V competition, a scant
1 minute behind Head Royce, the #9 team in the state. Jeff Jackson set the pace for
the 3 mile course for the first 2 1/2 miles before succumbing to University's Robbie
Hagbom. Jackson's finishing time of 16:31 was the 9th fastest Division V clocking ever
on the Hayward High course. Freshman Zach Nave continued to inch closer to Jackson as
the team's 2nd runner. Kevin Dinglasan, Joe Dolan, and Joe Lehr rounded out the top five.
