   BEI'S GREAT START<
   Former Montgomery High standout Sara Bei, who is coming off a great junior season 
in which she finished third in the nation, led No. 1-ranked Stanford to victory at the 
31st annual Stanford Cross Country Invitational last weekend.<
   Bei blew away the competition, winning the 4,000-meter race in 13:16. Teammate Shannon 
Bergstedt, a freshman, finished second in 13:55. Stanford's Anita Siraki won the women's 
6,000 meters in 21:14. More than 4,000 athletes attended the meet.<
   UC Davis freshman Kim Conley (Montgomery) finished 22nd in the women's 6,000 in 22:54; 
former Maria Carrillo High runner Juliann Baker was 30th for Cal Poly-SLO (23:05) and 
Kim Handel (Montgomery) was 33rd for UC Irvine (23:07). Oregon's J.K. Withers 
(Cardinal Newman) was 24th in the men's 6,000 in 12:30. Oregon teammate Ryan Andrus 
won the race in 11:53.<
