NCAA INDOOR TRACK

UCLA freshman Robert "Jake" Arnold, a graduate of Maria Carrillo, is ninth in
the heptathlon after four of seven events in the Division I championships at
the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.

The final three events are scheduled today.

Maurice Smith, a senior out of Auburn, leads the competition with 3,325 points.
Arnold has 2,897. There are 14 finalists.

Arnold ran the 60-meter dash in 7.33 seconds; had a long jump of 21-5.25 feet,
put the shot 41-01.5 and high jumped 6-06.

Stanford University's Sara Bei will compete in the 3,000 meter run today. Bei
qualified third and is expected to challenge for the title despite missing most
of the indoor season with a back injury.
