RARE ACHIEVEMENT: WINNING 4 EVENTS

Santa Rosa senior Marshall Olin hasn't really met a track event he doesn't like.
Olin achieved a rarity at the Santa Rosa All-City meet on Friday, winning four events -- the 110 and 300 hurdles,
the long jump and the triple jump.
``It may have happened (before), but not in my memory,'' said Santa Rosa coach Doug Courtemarche.
At Santa Rosa, which has a long track history, Olin ranks fifth in the 300 hurdles (40.33), fifth in the 110 high
hurdles (15.14), fifth in the triple jump (44- 3/4 ) and 10th in the long jump (22-1 1/2 ).
Olin and Josh Jackson of Elsie Allen were chosen co-male athletes of the All-City meet. Jackson won three running
events.
``Marshall is just a real good athlete,'' Courtemarche said. ``He's a good soccer player, and he can throw the
discus in track. Nothing surprises me about him. He has the ability, he picks up everything really quickly and he
thrives on the pressure.''
``I probably like the 110 hurdles the best,'' Olin said. ``My form is not quite there yet. I know I can get better.''
Last season Olin won the 110 hurdles and triple jump at the North Bay League championships and advanced as far
as the Meet of Champions in three events.
``He blossomed as a hurdler his sophomore year,'' Courtemarche said.
Olin came to Santa Rosa as a long jumper. By his freshman year, he was learning the triple jump and already
dabbling in the hurdles.
He's also played soccer for four years at Santa Rosa and recently took up rugby.
``In track, if you run poorly,'' he said, ``you're not as much letting the team down.''
Of the Lobo rugby team, which won state last weekend, Olin said, ``They're an amazingly talented team ... it's
great to see.''
Olin was accepted to the Naval Academy, but hopes to become a doctor and has chosen UC Santa Barbara to start
college. He plans to be a walk-on in track.
