If you live in Petaluma and like to run, chances are you'll cross paths with Trojans'
cross country coach Jim Lynch.
Lynch, in his second year as coach at Petaluma, started recruiting runners at the
junior high level and then began a summer cross country program.
This season's results are pretty startling as the Trojans, boasting four freshmen,
are believing they may be good enough to make state in Div. II.
One of the freshmen, Sterling Lockkey, broke a 10-year-old Helen Putnam course record
last week. Lockkey was a soccer player until hooking up with Lynch last summer.
The other freshmen are Ben Stern, Brandon Felipe and Ben Nelson.
A couple of weeks ago, Petaluma beat some of the top large-school teams at the Mariner
Invitational in Hayward.
