November ‘Run to Feed the Hungry’ The 4.3 mile run/walk race begins and ends at Juilliard Park on Santa Rosa Avenue. The race follows the Prince Greenway and Santa Rosa Creek. The race begins at 9 a.m. Awards will be presented the top three male and female finishers and the top three winners in 13 age groups ranging from 8 years and under to 75 and over. To Benefit Redwood Empire Food Bank, F.I.S.H. SANTA ROSA, Oct. 12 – Food assistance programs of the Redwood Empire Food Bank and F.I.S.H. will be the beneficiaries of the third annual “Run to Feed the Hungry” fundraiser scheduled Sunday, Nov. 6 in Santa Rosa. The annual run is sponsored by Fleet Feet Sports, Empire Runners of Sonoma County, and the City of Santa Rosa. Proceeds from race registration, as well as non-perishable foods participants are encouraged to donate, will go to the Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) and F.I.S.H. The REFB is the largest hunger-relief organization in Sonoma County. It provides food to 49,000 low income people each month and distributes 8 million pounds of food a year. F.I.S.H., which stands for Friends In Service Here, is a volunteer organization which operates a food cupboard in Santa Rosa. The group provides emergency food to 50,000 people a year. Some 300 runners participated in the Run to Feed the Hungry last year. Runners can register online, via mail or in person. Online registration can be completed at www.SantaRosaRec.com . Deadline for online signups is Nov. 3. Registration forms can be downloaded from www.FleetFeetSantaRosa.com and mailed to or dropped-off at Finley Community Center, 2060 West College Ave., Santa Rosa, CA 95401. Deadline is Nov. 3. And runners can register in person at Fleet Feet Sports, 643 Fourth St. in Santa Rosa. Deadline is Nov. 5. Registration fees are $20 through Nov. 3 and $25 after Nov. 3. Registration for runners 18 and under is $15. Runners can pickup information packets, race numbers and t-shirts, while supplies last, at race-day registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Juilliard Park. Runners are urged to donate non-perishable foods when they pick up their race numbers on the day of the run. REFB food barrels will be at the registration booth for donations. The 4.3 mile course is mostly flat and partially paved and will include mile split times and one aid station serving water and an electrolyte replacement drink.
