Brew finished fourth at the Stanford Invite on Saturday, the highest finish ever for a Puma runner in the race, and his early-season times rank him the top runner among Empire boys. Brew, the Empire's reigning mile champ, put in a summer of hard running. ``A lot of times it's a mental thing in cross country,'' Aldridge said. ``Whatever it is, kids just don't believe they're that good. Michael's confidence is up.'' The Puma boys finished third at Stanford and are ranked first in Div.II in the NCS and ninth in the state.
