MAURICE WHITLOCK: SANTA ROSA, SENIOR, TRACK

It's getting close to that time of the season when track competitors, like Santa Rosa High sprinter
Maurice Whitlock, get down to business.
Whitlock, who won both the 100m and 200m at last Friday's All-City Meet, ranks among the top three
100m competitors in the NCS, and in the top-six in the 200m. He also runs on Santa Rosa's high-ranking
4x100 relay team.
``Yeah, the workouts get a little easier now,'' Whitlock said. ``Now, it's more about technique.''
Whitlock enjoyed one of his best days as a sprinter two weeks ago when he ran a 10.92 100m at the
Viking Classic and a 22.3 200m.
``He's bigger, stronger and has great determination,'' said Santa Rosa coach Doug Courtemarche.
``He just runs down the others in his races.''
Whitlock will be the favorite in the sprints in Friday's NBL meet at Piner and then it will be on to
the NCS Meet of Champions and hopefully a trip to state.
Whitlock may run track at City College of San Francisco next year.

Maurice Whitlock won his specialties, the 100m and 200m at last Friday's All-City Meet at
Santa Rosa. He has run a season- and personal-best 10.92 in the 100m and 22.3
in the 200m. He also runs on Santa Rosa's 4x100 relay team, which owns the best time in the
Empire.
