Carrillo extends streak to 63

By Jim Crowhurst

Maria Carrillo need not worry about the debate in cross country over whether
it's an individual or team sport as they won all eight catagories of varsity
and JV races at today's league meet in Ukiah.

Carrillo and Montgomery each entered this last meet before the North Bay League
finals undefeated in both the boys and girls. Carrillo, in fact, has been
undefeated in league for five years now and extended their streak to 63 wins
with their triumphs over the Montgomery and Ukiah squads.

In the boys race seniors Alex Hartz (17:06) and Nate Huckeba (17:07) went one-
two for the Pumas, with Ukiah's sophomore standout Andrew Zellman (17:18)
taking third.
“I was very happy with my race today since it was only my third day back from a
shin injury.” said Hartz.
Carrillo coach Greg Fogg couldn't have been more pleased with his teams'
performances.
“These teams are ready for the post season.” said Fogg, “They are both healthy
and confident.”
Pumas Grant Williams (17:49) and Gus Greenstein (17:53) took the 4th and 5th
spots in the boys race with Montgomery's Aria Kiani next in 17:58.

After loosing most of Carrillo's top girls from last year's team to graduation,
this might have been a down year for the Pumas if not for the addition of
sophomore's Lauren (20:06) and Cara Curtin (20:18).
With the twins leading the way and junior Jordan Davis (20:30) taking the third
spot ahead of the Viking's sophomore Hunter Connell (20:40), the Pumas nearly
had a perfect team score.
Lauren and Cara did not run cross country last year. “I'm a little surprised to
be leading this team.” said Lauren. ”I felt fine once I passed the first set
of steep hills, but during the second set I started to hurt.”
Carrillo's Sarah Dirado (20:43) and Kelly O' Leary (20:56) completed their teams'
scoring, with Montgomery's Julie Nacouzi (21:01) taking the 7th spot.

The final team scoring for the girls was Carrillo 17, Montgomery 45 and Ukiah 79.

The boys' scores were Carrillo 20, Montgomery 45 and Ukiah 73.

Carrillo will be going for there 5th straight league titles on November 9th at
Spring Lake.
