Maria Carrillo girls, after having dominated the North Bay League Track Championships
the last four years, looked ready to do it again after concluding their last league meet
in Ukiah, defeating previously undefeated Montgomery.
Carrillo scored more points in the running events than the Vikings and Wildcats combined,
lead by double winner Lauren Curtin (1600m 5:27 and 800m 2:25).
Montgomery countered with a strong showing in the field events lead by double winner
Corrine Rich (shot 38-6 and discus 111-0).
Host Ukiah was not without a standout of their own, as Lauren Wallace was also a double
winner taking both sprints (100m 13.2 and 200m 27.5).
The top performance of the meet came in the high jump as Montgomery freshman Luisa McInnis
and Carrillo sophomore Julia Krickl both surpassed their bests, with McInnis soaring the
highest, in a new prep best at 5-4. That mark makes her the third highest freshman ever
while Krickl improved her best to 5-2.
“I was only expecting to tie my PR today at five feet.” said McInnis, “But I don’t like
to lose.”
Carrillo totaled 79 points for the win, with Montgomery at 61, and Ukiah at 29.
“We have a young group this year that just keeps getting better each week.” said Coach
Greg Fogg.
On the boys’ side, Carrillo edged Ukiah 75-72.
Montgomery finished with 21.
Double winners include Carrillo’s Grant Williams (1600m 4:41 and 800m 2:06) and
Montgomery’s Kevin Donnelly (100m 12.1 and 200m 24.4).
Ukiah claimed a number of points in the pole vault lead by Greg Shelton at 11-6.
All running times were hampered by strong cold winds.
