Bob Padecky One of the reasons why I like cross country Last Saturday at the state meet in Fresno, just before the beginning of the Girls Division 2 race, a girl from Saugus arrived late and couldn't find her team. In so many other sports, I must say, she would have been left to wander up and down the start line. She is a competitor after all. Instead Casa Grande's Carl Triola left his girls and yelled to the Saugus kid, "They are over there!" Triola literally went out of his way to help a competitor and no matter what you think of the sport, it has to gain points for exercising sportsmanship - an action not as universal in other sports as it should be. Yeah, call me old-fashioned but being decent rates high in my book.
