Empire runners look state-bound

The high school track and field season is heating up and Empire performers are showing that the first state meet held
at Buchanon High in Clovis on June 5-6 is a definite possibility.

Check out these highlights from last weekend’s Woody Wilson Invitational at UC Davis:

Windsor senior high jumper Mike Tracy won with a jump of 6 feet, 9 inches, seventh-best mark all-time in the Redwood
Empire and the best since a 6-9 by Sonoma’s Dan Littlefield in 1999.

Tracy is now ranked second in Northern California.

Santa Rosa senior Rory McLeod finished second in the 3,200 meters, clocking a 9:20.81, the seventh-fastest time ever in
the Empire and a school record.

A couple of weeks earlier at the Arcadia Invitational, McLeod anchored the Panthers’ distance medley relay team with a
4:16.5 mile and Santa Rosa ran the second-fastest in Empire history in 10:23.65.

Fort Bragg senior Oleg Ryabokorovka of the Ukraine finished second in the long jump at 21-11½, a prep best this season,
and fifth in the triple jump at 43-5¾. Ryabokorovka leads a very good Fort Bragg team and has overcome back injuries
suffered as a youth gymnast in his native country. He plans on becoming a U.S. citizen and hopes to compete at the
college level next season.

Healdsburg senior Eric Arneson finished second in the 300 meter hurdles in a season Empire best 39.79, a 14th all-time
Empire best mark. Arneson was also fifth in the 110 meter high hurdles.

Santa Rosa junior Reesey Byers was third in the 1,600 meters in a season Empire best 4:21.77.

Byers is also a member of Santa Rosa’s distance medley team.

Santa Rosa senior shot putter Troy Baker had a season prep best throw of 52-9 3/4 in finishing third.

His younger brother, sophomore Travis Baker, was sixth in the discus with a throw of 145-5.

Healdsburg sprinter Dante Fountain was third in the 100 meter dash in 11.11 and first in his heat. He was also fourth
in the 200 in 22.30, a season prep best.

Montgomery sophomore girls’ high jumper Louisa McInnis finished second with a jump of 5-4.

Santa Rosa junior Suzi Rozga ran an 11:15.12 in the 3,200 and Montgomery sophomore Julie Nacouzi ran 11:15.86, cracking
the Empire’s top 30 all-time.

Healdsburg junior Claire Bingham lowered her Empire bests in the 100 hurdles (15.84) and 300 hurdles (47.68).

Two Healdsburg junior high athletes set meet records in their divisions. Andrew Kozel won the 200 in 23.87 and Devyn Ruiz
won the girls’ 200 in 28.19
