Saucony/Heart & Sole Redwood Empire XC Runner of the week
Heart & Sole Sports has launched a new program with Saucony to recognize Cross Country
athletes throughout the Redwood Empire this season!
They will be awarding two runners each week (one boy + one girl) with a custom silkscreened
Saucony tech T-shirt to honor them as their chosen “Runner of the Week”.
The purpose of this program is to spread more recognition to more cross country athletes.
(13 weeks = 26 different runners throughout the season) across the entire Redwood Empire.
Each Runner of the Year recieves a free pair of Saucony Shoes.

STATE Finals Week (Nov. 22-28)
Ryan Douglas, Petaluma, freshman Heidi Thiele, Maria Carrillo, sophomore

Douglas was 80th at State in Division III, Thiele was 45th at State in Division III, her
6th fastest freshman of the entire meet. 19:01 5K was the 5th fasest of all empire girls.

NCS Finals Week (Nov. 15-21)
Clark Bernard, Petaluma, junior Lauren Curtin, Maria Carrillo, senior

Bernard placed 12th to help clinch team Curtin placed 2nd in NCS finals
title at NCS finals for Petaluma. to help lead her team to NCS crown.

CMC Finals Week (Nov. 8-14)
Justin Watkins, Santa Rosa Christian, senior Kiana Herold, Sonoma Academy, freshman
Watkins won the CMC finals and Herold was 2nd in CMC finals and
led his team to the Pennant. helped Sonoma Academy to their second Pennant.

SCL Finals Week (Nov. 8-14)
Kevin Poteracke, Petaluma, freshman Dominque Ratto, Casa Grande, senior
Poteracke ran 15:55 at Spring Ratto placed 3rd in SCL finals
Lake to finish 4th in SCL finals. in a fast 18:35

NBL Finals Week (Nov. 1-7)
Matthew Taylor, Santa Rosa, senior Margie Garza, Maria Carrillo, senior
Taylor ran 15:55 at Spring lake to Ran strong #4 and strong PR (comeback from sophomore year)
finish 6th in NBL finals. to help lead Carrillo to NBL title

Lead puma boys in 15:41 at Spring Lake, Ran a fast 17:59 on Ragle Ranch Course, running #2
to undefeated 7-0 league meet season. for team, to help Petaluma stay undefeated.

Spencer Hall, Casa Grande, senior Amber Peirsol, Windsor, sophomore
Won his division II race at Mt. Sac in 16:04. Finished 2nd to Isabell Andrade on Wed. in 8th fastest
Tied course record in dual on Wed. time ever run at Petaluma's Helen Putnam Park course.

Week 7 (Oct. 11-17)
Andrew Zellman, Ukiah, senior Lauren Kraus, Maria Carrillo, freshman
1st vs. Santa Rosa/Carrillo and Led team at Cal Poly Invite and helped team to
won the Mariner Invite in 16:45. 88th straight NBL dual victory on Wed vs. Santa Rosa/Ukiah.

Week 6 (Oct. 4-10)
Forrest Shaffer, Petaluma, junior Isabel Andrade, Petaluma, senior
4th individual at Div III Clovis 16:13. 2nd individual for Div III Clovis 18:53;
Team win + top 30 all-time at Woodward Park. led team to 2nd place finish.

Nick Spector, Sonoma Valley, senior Kasey Schalich, Piner, senior
1st vs St.Vincent & lead his team to victory. Finished in top 10, (9th), at Scott Bauhs
Also lead his team again at Artichoke Inv. Invitational senior division.

Brian King, Cardinal Newman, senior Sarah Gallagher, Montgomery, senior
Placed 4th Div IV at Stanford 16:08, Placed 23rd in Div II race at Stanford in 20:37,
3rd fastest time in the Redwood Empire 7th fastest time for Empire Girls and 2:39 improvement from ’08 time of 23:16

Week 3 (Sep. 13-19)
Luis Luna, Piner, sophomore Katy Lee, Sonoma Academy, freshman
Both Luis (15:41) and Katy (20:01) won Wednesday's Super Septo at Spring Lake.
Saturday both won the Frosh/Soph divisions of the Viking Opener by large margins.

Reesey and Julie both won the large school division of the Ed Sias Invitational.
Julie had the fastest time of all races.

Hugh (15:10) and Jacque (17:14) both won the Rancho Cotate Invitational in new meet records.
