What you see below is the original picks for 2009 REDWOOD EMPIRE GIRLS ALL-EMPIRE CROSS COUNTRY. Based off of how the Press Democrat has done their All-Empire picks, in past years, this was how the girls would have been placed. First change seen is PD's new policy of only one runner of the year. With two girls of national caliber in 2009 and those two splitting their head-to-head races 4-4 they would have been co-runners under old system. Second change was limiting 1st and 2nd team to only five runners each. The two teams shown below are girls placed in groups were first team runners were all fairly close in their overall season. Dropping that group down to five was again splitting hairs. For boys the original had all the boys listed 2nd team who in final ended up 2nd team and honorable mention. Narrowing down that fine group to the final five was again a tough call.
