A family spinning out of control?
Not this one!

Maria Carrillo has a new freshman discus thrower this season but experience will probably not be a problem.
Her name is Kathleen Durand and she has already thrown farther than anyone else this year. 
Her 106 foot 10 inch throw to win the Big Cat Invite is also the fifth farthest throw by a freshman ever. 
She has now backed up that throw by having the longest toss at Piner Gold Rush Relays at 106-0.

Carrillo's Jean Lightfoot, who was one of 2006's Athletes of the Year, and holds the
school record at 129-10 (5th All-Time) threw 90-9 as a freshman.

But what is really intersting about Kathleen is her family background.

Kathleen's Mom is still the school record holder at Rancho Cotate where
she holds that record at 122-2 from 1990 under her maiden name, Alycia Yacoboski. 
Alycia was the 1990 and 1991 NBL discus champion.

Kathleen's Aunt from her dad's side is the Ursuline record holder
Christa Durand at 126-9 from 2003.
Christa was the 2003 NBL discus champion.

Another of Kathleen's Aunt's from her dad's side is
Joy Durrand also at Ursuline 117-2 1992.
 
Ross Durand of Newman is her uncle who was the 1988 NBL discus champion.

And as you might guess Kathleen's parents met throwing the discus.
Her father Joe Durand was the JC Conference Discus Champion in the early 1990's. 
When Joe was at Cardinal Newman he threw the Discus 147'9" and the Shot 49'9".

Chris Durand (Kathleen's Brother), a junior thrower for Maria Carrillo, has a best of 116-9 this year.
 
Finally Jonathan Durand (Sophomore) busted the mold, and is doing the Pole Vault. 
He jumped 12-0 at the Gold Rush Relays.


Marks for Kathleen to shoot for this year.
106-11 to surpass her 2010 Prep Best.
124-11 to surpass the freshman All-Time record by Marissa Wilson, Santa Rosa 1995.

Marks for Kathleen to shoot for over the next four years.
117-3 to surpass her aunt Joy Durrand.
122-3 to surpass her mom.
126-10 to surpass her aunt Christa Durand.
129-11 to surpass the Maria Carrillo school record by Lightfoot.
136-5 to surpass Empire record of Corrine Rich, Montgomery 2008.


Yes I know this is the shot put. I hope to get a discus photo of her in the future.
