Who won’t be competing
By Jim Crowhurst The top NCS/Redwood Empire discus throwers will be competing Saturday to try and place in the top seven to qualify for the NCS Meet of Champions, except one. Windsor freshman sensation Nicole Purter threw farther on May 13th than any other SCL thrower had all year at 108-3. Of all the league final marks in the NCS/Redwood that week it ranks as 5th best. Problem is it happened in the SCL JV Championships. Only the varsity competition qualifies on. The reason Purter decided to compete JV was that she wanted to compete on the 4X100 Relay team and they were competing JV. The SCL will still be well represented as Casa junior Elaine Weave threw 110-2 at the Varsity finals on May 15th. The other local freshman sensation Carrillo’s Kathleen Durand who holds the Prep Best at 114-5 will be throwing having won the NBL finals at 108-11. Fortuna’s Cady Gambrell is seeded #1 having won the Humboldt-Del Norte league at 123-6.Nicole Purter The meet will be at Redwood High School in Larkspur. First field event 8:30am Boys Long Jump First Running 10:00 a.m. Girls 4 x 100 Relay ADMISSION Admission price is $9 general admission and $6 for students and senior citizens. Individual passes or student association cards do not entitle the holder to free admission. DIRECTIONS TO REDWOOD HIGH SCHOOL From the North: Take HWY 101 South to the LUCKY DRIVE exit. Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto FIFER AVE. Turn LEFT onto LUCKY DR. LUCKY DR becomes DOHERTY DR. Park in the school parking lot next to the stadium.
