Byers’ thoughts on the record run

I asked Reesey to share his thoughts on the record race. Reesey Byers Well before the race, I was very nervous and I was filled with anxiety. I wanted to see how I compared to not only the fastest runners in California, but also the top runners in other States. During the race I was focused and ready to run fast. There was alot of people trying to break the 9 minute barrier as well so it made things a little difficult, because I was always getting boxed in and shoved around and having to waste my energy to go around people just to pass them. I didn't expect that many people to break 9 though. After the race I was quite happy that I had achieved my goal of breaking the 9 minute barrier. But I also had a sense that I hadn't completely accomplished my goal. I was a little dissapointed that I had to waste so much energy because of how compact the race was, I didn't feel like I raced to my full potential during the race. I knew I could have kept with the leaders, but I kept getting swallowed up by the pack. After the race, a bunch of the sub 9 guys and the 9 flat guy cooled down together. It was amazing, all the guys were really nice and after the cool down I felt much better about my race. Overall I am pretty happy about my race and you can't be dissapointed with a PR (Personal Best) so I'm pretty happy about it. I really appreciated all of the support I recieved before, during and after my race. It really helped me and I can't wait until I get to race another 3200m hard. I know I can bring my time down and I've learned to trust my training and be confident that I can race against anyone. Now watch the race (albertcaruana.blogspot)
