NCS Redwood Empire Notes

By Jim Crowhurst

First, to let you know I was not at the meet. I was with my daughter who was
riding our pony in the Rose parade. She got 1st.

These notes are to supplement the Press Democrat story that will be in Sunday's
paper, which is why I am not mentioning some of the big and obvious results
like Aldridge's 1600.

The format for this meet is very unusual. You will notice in the first race
listed in the results, that Leachman beat Gabler 12.59 to 12.60. If you
were not at the meet, you need to know that what could have been a great
matchup never happened. The number to the far right under the H# shows
the heats they were in. Leachman in 1, Gabler in 2. Only in the field events
and the 3200 & 1600 will you find a true competition.

I have been told that in the boys 100, Casa's David King won his heat so he
will advance and Carrillo's House, who ran a faster time, will not. In my opinion
the only fair way to do advancements is with a head-to-head final.

NBL & SCL sweep top 8 spots in girls 800 & 1600.
In those events three freshman continue to show they are among the best ever.
Kristin Fladesth (2:18.71) and Amy Robinson (5:00.95), both of Maria Carrillo,
and Ashton LeSieur of Casa Grande (2:19.57, 5:02.25) all moved into the top 7.
In the 1600, Robinson and LeSieur, are now at 3rd and 4th all-time on the Empire
freshman list, with only state champions Sara Bei & Julia Stamps going faster.
