Hardship races
Amber Trotter earned a spot in the Redwood Empire Championships after a race against fifth-place 3200 qualifer Kate Blake of Montgomery at Healdsburg High School. Blake was moved up to the fifth place spot after Maria Carrillo's Jenny Aldridge and Amy Robinson waived their spots to go on in post-season competition. Even though Trotter has been injured for most of the track season with sciatic nerve pain, Blake was an obvious underdog to the state-leading 3200 runner and cross country national champion. "I was just running this race for my team. I just wanted to do my best and run my race and not worry about what Amber did," said Blake, who finished in 12:47 to Trotter's 11:31. Trotter went out fast and got a large lead, Blake said. Conditions were warm and windy. "After the race she talked to me and explained she wanted to do this to help Shelby (Leland)," Blake said. "She thanked me for coming and running against her." ALSO The denial of Ruben Mora-Roman's hardship waiver by the SCL was reversed. The runoff between Ruben Mora-Roman (Analy) and Mike Becker (Casa Grande) took place 5/14 at Petaluma HS. Ruben won with a time of 10:19.0 and will replace Becker, who ran 10:34.2 for 3200.
